Budgeting

RamBase supports entering budgets and reporting against them. Budgets can be created in RamBase, or in a spreadsheet and subsequently imported into RamBase. The budget can be divided into one post per budget account, period, department, and project. RamBase supports simple consolidation of budgets.

Most users prefer to enter budget numbers in a spreadsheet, as it speeds up the registration. If different spreadsheets do not contain the same combination of account, period, department and project, the budget will be consolidated while it is loaded into RamBase. This makes it possible to distribute the budget process to different departments and projects.

Budget numbers are stored on separate budget accounts and are mapped against the Chart of accounts in RamBase. This gives flexibility in the budget structure. Budgets can be placed against both balance accounts and result accounts.

Output from budget process

  • Control over revenue and costs.

  • Basis for comparison and analysis.

  • A tool for planning and measuring the financial development.

One way to work with budgeting is to compare the account balances with the budget accounts, create analysis, and make a basis for new budgets as part of your daily tasks. Another way to work with it is do it once or twice a year, and create the budget based on last year's numbers, and experiences. A third approach to budgeting is to create sales prognosis and look at the cost key figures.

You have to work through many sub-processes before registering the final budget.

Tasks involved in this process

  • Create budget - The budget is created in a separate register. The budget, with its connections to the Chart of Account (ACC), periods and dimensions, are held in the budget register.

  • Import budget - The budget can be imported by an Excel-file (CSV format). Use of Excel increases your efficiency when it comes to registering the budget in RamBase. The budget must be configured for RamBase.

  • Manual registration of the budget - It is very time-consuming to register the budget manually. On the other hand, it will give you an extra control of the numbers.

  • Compare the budget and the general ledger - It is important to compare the budget with the general ledger. Use account groups to ease the comparison.
